Author of
Homo Angelicansis
Spiritual Anthropology and
the Evolution of the Soul
Born in South Africa, author Izak Botha's ideas about life, spirituality and the soul started very young. "I can remember when I was about 6 years old when I walked out of the house where we lived and my mother would ask me where I was going. I would tell her I was going to sit on that hill over there to think. And, that is exactly what I did. Go and ponder about life all day long," Izak explains. He shares those ideas in his new book Homo Angelicansis, which discusses the possibility that Homo sapiens are evolving into a new species.
An architect by trade, Izak retired from corporate life during the 1990's. "After going through a number of disappointments, I decided to stop corporate life and start to write full time about the passion of my life - spirituality and higher consciousness," says Izak. His writings first revolved around an investigation into spirituality and the nature of the human soul. "The book did not actually start off as 'Homo Angelicansis' - the possibility that Homo sapiens are evolving into a new species. The concept of a more evolved species on spiritual grounds only became obvious once I put all the parts of my book together as a whole," he says.
Izak has always considered himself a “student of life”. "My favorite saying has always been “I was born spiritual; I am now merely trying to become human”, he says. "However, I did not know what it meant until much later in my life. I seek knowledge and wisdom. To me “wisdom” is “applied knowledge”."
Homo Angelicansis was written over a 5 year period, but Izak's research on spirituality stretches over thirty years. His earlier quest for spirituality was mostly disappointing. "All the disciplines claiming to have answers to life and spirituality fall short of the mark. From early on I embarked on a journey of self discovery. The book is about what I have found on my journey. It is my take on spirituality and the possible existence of the soul," he explains.
When not writing Izak enjoys rollerblading, competitive Frisbee, aerobics, fishing, rock running, mountain climbing, and cycling.
"I have always been a very physical person," he says. "I also love to have mind bender intellectual connections with friends." He also has a 10 month old German Shorthaired Pointer dog named Bullet. Izak is currently busy with a second book on spiritual consciousness.
