Becky Due, like the main characters of her novels, spent many years running from herself, looking for love, crying a little and laughing a lot along the journey of finding herself. Through her writing, she has finally found herself and her passion.
"I lived in Minnesota and my life was a mess; I was out of control," says Becky. "I didn’t have direction, but I did have the need to write." Becky sold her car, and jumped on a Greyhound bus to find answers. When the bus came to the Atlantic Ocean in North Carolina, she decided to get off. "I rented a small house and bought a typewriter. Instead of running from myself, I started facing my demons and writing about my experiences." It was there in North Carolina that she wrote her first book, The Gentlemen’s Club: A Story for All Women. It was also where Becky realized her dream and purpose - writing.
Each of Becky's novels has taken a lifetime to create. "Of course, I have hurdles but it is part of the process of being a writer," she explains. "I give up time with my husband, family and friends, I am nervous wreck every time I finish a book and have to hand it over to my editor, and the editing is no walk in the park. Thankfully, I’m learning to be a better writer with each book."
A little research is always involved in the creation of each book, but Becky enjoys the challenge. "So much of what I write about involves my life experiences and the experiences of other women," she says. "Exploring each topic is empowering and inspiring and that is what I try to convey in all of my novels."
Every one of Becky's novels belongs to a slightly different genre, but all deal with the common theme of women’s issues. "I feel I’m testing myself and my readers to find my perfect fit," she says. "My readers appreciate the variety with the same strong theme that women are strong and independent no matter what the situation. I’m always optimistic that my readers will enjoy my novels. I feel so blessed and lucky to have done so well in this field. I’ve been a finalist in several competitions: 2010 National Indie Excellence Awards and 2009 IP Awards. Being an author is not easy—rejection and bad reviews are part of the game."
Becky is happily married with two pets: a black cat and a fawn pug. "My husband and I love to travel and we seem to gravitate toward warmer climates. I love spending time with my family and friends and I love to laugh," she says. "I think when you’ve gone through hard times, and then one day you wake up and realize that you laugh a lot, that’s a true sign that you’ve found happiness and contentment." Becky is currently working on her next novel, which is in the editing process. "I just can’t stop doing what I love," she says.
