Marion Freed, author of
Sagaponic Lane

Author Marion S. FreedMarion Freed wrote her first "novel" at just nine years old. "I've been haunted by stories all my life. Some are more suited to a dramatic visual format, while others require the more probing possibilities of prose," she explains. Her love for the English language grew as she obtained her degree in English Literature from Barnard College and served as an editorial researcher on "You Are There", hosted by Walter Kronkite.

After being promoted to Story Editor at CBS and serving as Editor at both Dell and Pines Publications, Marion was drawn to film. Taking on the title of Film Editor, she worked on a string of unique and highly successful films, including "Badlands", "Fun With Dick and Jane", "Days of Heaven", "Carbon Copy" and many others.

Eventually, Marion combined her two loves of writing and film to become a screenwriter. She co-wrote her first screenplay "R.S.V.P. Jennifer" with Sheldon Keller and, over the years, has worked with Robert Altman, Terrence Malick, Gil Cates and many others. After she married Producer/Director Herb Freed, Marion began to work exclusively on projects the couple developed together. Marion has written some twenty screenplays, five of which were produced and released theatrically, including: "Subterfuge", "Child2Man", "Sunsplash" and "Paradise Lost".

Sagaponic Lane by Marion S. Freed ... BellRock EntertainmentIn her new book Sagaponic Lane, Marion Freed draws us into her seductive web as she cracks open the shutters of celebrity worshippers and social climbers. Her magic carpet takes us on a breath-taking ride inside the hearts as well as the entrails of the lovers, adulterers, artists and desperate wannabees who flourish and fester in the opulent swamps of the Hamptons, Beverly Hills and New York. Her characters ring so true, it can be painful for the reader to linger in front of a mirror. They are too familiar. At first, we snicker at the social climbers and their comical antics, but we become less judgmental when we see that they suffer the same delusions, ambition and fears that make up so much of our lives. But if they are us, we can’t avoid the haunting questions: How would we react to infidelity, crippling disease, an overnight success or sudden failure? One of the great joys of this compelling novel is to try and predict how we might turn out if, but for the grace of God, we were them. As she did in her magical book of short stories, Marion Freed once again stirs the reader and opens our hearts to a way of life, both desirable and terrifying.

Married to Producer/Director Herb Freed for twenty years, the couple is currently working on a World War II screenplay.
