Verne Elliot Glassman, author of
The Other Chicago Mob

If one thing can be said about author Verne Elliot Glassman, it's that he takes the road less traveled. In his new book The Other Chicago Mob, Verne takes on the story of a corrupt Chicago police department.

Verne’s work career and private interests always followed twin paths. In work he became a Buyer and later Senior Subcontracts Administrator at the University of Colorado, Adolph Coors Company and various Aerospace Companies before retiring from a National Laboratory in Colorado. The parallel path he pursued was in art, photography and outdoor interests which he kept constant for most his life. These two paths combined later in life; his first hand experience in the Space Programs (Space Shuttle and others) which gave him exposure to the unique and stimulating world of high science and technology combined with his love of art and writing to allow him to embark on a second career in writing.

While living in Colorado, Verne met Gary Cohen, a Chicago police officer from 1966 to 1988. During their conversations, Verne became more and more intrigued with all the unbelievable stories about corruption within the Chicago Police Department. After hearing what Gary had told him, Verne felt very compelled to write the story.

The Other Chicago Mob is the story of crooked cops in a dishonest system that is part of a dysfunctional city government. It describes a forty-year cover-up as Gary crosses the thin blue line and breaks the code of silence to set history right. "The book allows us to correct history, Verne explains. "The people who were involved are getting older. I wanted to document the stories before the lies became the truth."

While writing the book, Verne had no problem putting himself into Gary's shoes. "My experience helped me put my mind into his world," he explains. "The absurdity of things is what got everyone by," he says. "It’s hard to believe that things like this were happening."

The story explains how it works, names individuals, takes you on the streets and down in the subways in this never before told true police story. Walk the streets and alleys of Chicago and see what being a cop was really about. "The book puts you right there and tells you how it was," Verne says.

Verne’s writing subjects are as diversified as his experience and works extensively in Fiction, Business, Medical books and True Police stories and the list continues to grow. He's focusing on releasing 3 books a year. He's currently planning a sequel to The Other Chicago Mob.
