Rescuing the American Dream

With so many examples of greed, dishonesty and uncaring behavior in our business and political institutions, author G. Web Ross thinks our country needs inspirational success stories that show how Character and values were used as building blocks for people's success. In his new book Rescuing the American Dream, he shares these stories of character and values such as integrity, honesty, hard work and tenacity with America.

G. Web Ross has over 40 years experience in the paper industry retired as the CEO of a large Newsprint Manufacturing Company. After retirement he became an advisor to two startup companies, which provided him with the inspiration for writing this book. After both businesses had been sold, I felt these were unique and inspirational stories that should be documented," he says. "I wasn't sure about writing a book, at first I just wanted to document the stories.  But as I got into it I realized these stories were really engaging and would be a role model for aspiring businessmen and entrepreneur's."

Web discovered some common threads of behavior among the three men, and began writing these down.  "That is how I came up with the 12 steps to success in business and life.  I had written about 3/4 of the book when the financial crises hit last fall and all of the sudden my book took on a whole new purpose," he explains. "Every time you would turn on TV or read a newspaper there was an example of greed, arrogance and just plain dishonesty in our business, financial and political institutions.  My book and the 12 steps told a different story. These three young  built their businesses with  good character and values."

As Web continued to write, he realized that these were stories were a message that all of the public needed to hear. "I realized that if I was going to reach that full potential I had to get some help," he says. "I could tell the story, but it was too mechanical.  It need some glitz."  That is when Web enlisted the help of Howard Klausner, a script writer and an author.  "He has done an outstanding job of putting himself inside of me, expressing my thoughts in a much more engaging and exciting way," he says.

This book is designed to read exactly as it was told in a series of afternoons in that Little Rock den and a few local eateries and watering holes, and again in Tennessee and Seattle not as academic case studies or a lecture, but two amazing stories of real life American Dreams, and the running commentary and wisdom of a man who not only witnessed those stories, but as an advisor to these entrepreneurs and their Dream (which, as you will see, often entered nightmare territory), he was an integral part of them.

When not writing, he enjoys playing golf and tennis. He has also traveled extensively and has become an avid videographer documenting his travels. "I  also have become quite proficient in Editing- adding music, graphics, and narration to my videos," he explains. "Again I am way behind on this because of the time I am spending on my book."

Web and his wife have been married for 60 years. They have three wonderful children, two sons and a daughter, one a neurologist, one a entrepreneur, and the daughter an actress/mother.  They have eight outstanding grandchildren.
