Daryl Wizelman,
Author of
Heart Leader
Author Daryl Wizelman is more than just a motivational leader and keynote speaker. From operating his own mortgage-banking firm to surviving spinal meningitis and shingles, he has lived through a lot. Now a business consultant, Daryl shares is secrets of personal and business success in his new book Heart Leader.
From 1991 until 2007 Daryl owned and operated United Pacific Mortgage, a mortgage-banking firm. In 2007, he made the hard decision to become part of Countrywide and shortly afterward, the credit crisis/mortgage crash occurred. "Within a few weeks of the deal closing, the credit crisis/mortgage crash occurred and Countrywide and the former United Pacific Mortgage were decimated by the changes in the economy and in the mortgage business. This was incredibly painful for me and caused tremendous anxiety, depression, sleepless night and stomach churning stress," Daryl says. As a result, he contracted viral spinal meningitis and developed shingles.
Laying in his hospital bed, Daryl had a chance to reevaluate his life. "The first half of my life I spent taking. I realized that working for a company like Countrywide was taking a personal and professional toll on my life, and that I needed to change direction to put my life back on track," he explains. "I'd like to spend the second half of my life giving."
Daryl went into a depression and decided to write to collect his thoughts. With the help of writer Bruce Dundore, those thoughts became the frame work for Heart Leader. ""I'm hoping that the book is an encouragement to all who read, no matter what kind of 'leader' they are ... from a parent to a company president. I also hope that the book serves as a 'movement' to create a new culture in business that puts people over profits."
HEART LEADER is an inspiring and instructive business biography that teaches and advocates for a different way to conduct our professional lives, with the hope that we can enhance productivity at the workplace and create a more satisfied and rewarding life in general. The book illustrates how the personal journey affects the professional one, and asks why we can’t create more businesses that offer a more humanistic experience. Redefining the economy will take years. It might never return to what it was, and in many ways, this could be a blessing.
In this period of flux, Heart Leaders will need to change the places we work. Heart Leaders must help define the new economy, working to create optimum employee performance and loyalty. Heart Leaders need to create an atmosphere of positive energies not driven by the constant accumulation of raises and bonuses. Anytime lessons from the heart are expressed, they can often be perceived as “soft”. The intention of HEART LEADER is to provide the reader with an opportunity to make an immediate and tangible impact in the workplace and the world around them.
