An Expert Tutor Shows You How

Eileen Kaplan Shapiro

ABOUT THE BOOK

Master teacher, Eileen Shapiro, reveals the secrets of her 28 years of success: How to tutor everyone from preschoolers through college and adults. How to set-up and promote a part-time or full-time professional tutoring business. And how to tutor your children at home. She covers everything from how to impart the special knowledge you have (no teaching certificate required), to tutoring multiple subject areas, at all levels and types of education, including Special Education and Homebound students, those with learning disabilities, and preparing for tests and College Entrance Exams. How to advertise, promote, find clients, and build a thriving tutoring business.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

For over 28 years, master teacher, EILEEN SHAPIRO, has taught more than 6,000 students, from elementary school through college in a wide range of subject areas. Her students have ranged from those in Special Education and with learning disabilities to gifted learners, college students and returning adults. Mrs. Shapiro has written several study skills and stay-in-school books for the Chicago Tribune, computerized study courses for the SAT and ACT college entrance exams, and a dictionary of words most commonly used in the SAT. She has also taught the SAT in both public and parochial high schools and consulted in teaching word problems and math-study shortcuts.

This firm, explicit, basic guide is strongly recommended reading for anyone with the aspiration, knowledge and wherewithal to be their own boss. It is an absolute must for anyone looking to get a job in one-on-one teaching, whether for a few extra dollars on the side, or as a lifetime primary career!"

– A Story Weaver Book Reviews

"Shapiro tells the reader everything she needs to know about how to make an income from tutoring at any level from elementary school through college. She covers not only the generalities, but also several of the most common subjects for tutors. Her advice is relevant both for prospective tutors with a degree in a particular subject and also for individuals to educate themselves so they can go into business.

Besides the subject matter and teaching end of tutoring, the author also thoroughly, pertinently, and succinctly covers the business end. Advertising and customer relations receive prominent treatment. It is an expert, practical manual. Shapiro takes tutoring seriously both as an important type of work and a business. Readers can get ideas for earning extra money by tutoring or learn how to go into tutoring full time."
