Summary
Abraham's Journal is a 568-page historical novel that takes place in New
England during the time of the Pilgrims and early settlers of our country.
It is the story of Abraham Blish, 1616-1683, a wealthy and well-educated
young man who, in 1637, after receiving his inheritance, set off on a
wondrous adventure in a new land. He sailed to Boston, MA to meet his
friend Richard More, 1612-1688, who was a passenger on the 'Mayflower' in 1620 at
the young age of 8.
It is written that each of these men kept a journal filled with stories
about their lives and families and their neighbors, including the many
hardships they endured as well as the good times that they shared. Most of
the names and dates are factual except for those with criminal intent, and
each story is based on an actual event. You will read about love, romance,
births, deaths, murder, unusual punishments, religion, hurricanes,
earthquakes, and huge snowstorms. Abraham's Journal is written for all
ages, from 12 to 102 and there is a new chapter for each year of Abraham's life
beginning in 1637 and ending in 1683.

Judges' comments:
Thorough and broad in scope; an amazing ancestor chronicle.
Well-written but somewhat narrow in scope; a valuable addition to
colonial
study.
A thorough account, enhanced by good storytelling. Good blend of facts
and
human emotions.
Author's
Bio
I was born and raised in
Springfield, VT and graduated from SHS Class of ’57.
My husband and I were married there in the
Methodist Church in 1957 and three of our four children, two sons and a
daughter were born there, our youngest son was born in Claremont, NH. We have eight grandchildren, one great-grandson and
twin great-daughters.
My husband Bob worked for Fellow Corp
in North Springfield, VT for 28 years and retired in 1992. We owned
Gould’s Redemption Center in Bellows Falls, VT for ten years, from 1984
until we closed it in 1994 and moved to Arizona. I worked in Phoenix and
in Wickenburg for eight years and retired in June 2002 from the Wickenburg
Unified School District where I was Food Service Director for the last two
years.
I have been interested in my ancestry
for many years and in 1992 I wrote and published my genealogy for the last
200 years, continuing on from where a distant cousin, Matthew Rhodes Blish,
left off.
I found most of the information for my
book while studying about the people who founded our country, the Pilgrims
and the Puritans, and those that followed closely behind them. I went to
Plymouth, MA and Barnstable, MA several times and searched the Libraries
and Museums there and talked to a number of nice people. I also used my
local library to find books and information about the early years of our
country.
While doing this I discovered that
Abraham Blish, one of the first settlers in Duxbury and Barnstable,
Massachusetts, had a very interesting life and decided I would document it
for my family. I continued to research and write about his life and the
life of many of the other people living in New England in the 1600’s and
before I knew it I had written a novel.
