Summary

Our need for security defeats us.  Fear is the basis of that need.  Fear is the basis of our decision-making and therefore our functioning.  Hence, the title.  Our basic fear is so frightening that we mostly keep it buried even from ourselves.  Our emotions dominate our intellect.

This insight attempts to explain our fear and thus liberate us.  However, if it as easy it would have been accomplished long ago-opening and reducing our defensiveness is our most difficult endeavor.  Paradoxically, our attempted prejudicial effort at self-protection is stifling and self-defeating.

Author's Bio

W.O. (Bill) Barlte, Jr. has lived a varied life as a commodity (pork bellies) trader, landowner (South Padre Island, Texas), oil producer-with minimal success, thoroughbred owner-with much fun, except financial.  He also owned the Honey Creek Ranch in Comal County, Texas.  It was sold to the Nature Conservancy.  They sold it to the Texas Parks and Wildlife.  It is now part of the Guadalupe River State Park and Honey Creek State Natural Area.

He also lost a considerable amount of money trading options.  Options expire.  Losing helps you focus.  This book is a product of openness, focus, curiosity and our functioning.  Bill lives with his wife in Texas.
