About The Author

John S. Adams has been a student of basic management technique since he formed his own janitorial company at the age of 17. He started working in the mall business at age 19, when The Rouse Company hired and assigned him the coordination of portions of mall developments in Toronto, Ontario (Sherway Gardens, 1970) and Atlanta, Georgia (Perimeter Mall, 1971). John was Assistant Mall Manager in Greensburg, Pennsylvania (Greengate Mall, 1973) and subsequently managed village centers in Columbia, Maryland (1974) and then regional malls in Charlotte, North Carolina (Charlottetown Mall, 1975), Augusta, Georgia (Augusta Mall, 1978), Tampa, Florida (TBC, 1981), Atlantic City, New Jersey (Ocean One, 1986), and managed or supervised downtown developments in Chicago, Illinois (The Century), Indianapolis, Indiana (Union Station), Fort Worth, Texas (Sundance Square, 1994), and currently is a partner in PMI–Retail Property Management Corp., which is the largest retail management company in the Caribbean.

John received his CSM (Certified Shopping Center Manager) designation from ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers) in May, 1974.

Since 1992, John S. Adams has authored a column known as “The Mall Advisor” in Carlsonreport, a shopping center industry publication.
