Parenting Over the Rainbow:
How to Promote & Protect Your Child Actor

Gay Wolff

Summary:

Parenting Over the Rainbow: How to Promote & Protect Your Child Actor is an essential resource for concerned parents of child actors, or would-be actors.  In contrast to other resources that focus on how to strive for financial and fame success, this guide addresses professional and personal issues that must be managed for a more balanced and healthy kind of success.  Gay Wolff provides parents with the perspective and strategies that she has developed from over 13 years of being a set parent.  It is the guide she wishes someone had given her when she started.  In addition to learning from Wolff's diverse experiences in the commercial, TV, and film industry, insightful and in-depth comments are included from top professionals in the field.  Readers will get advise and perspective from Cindy Osbrink, talent agent; Terrence Hines, Manager; Veronica Lauren, child & now adult actor; Adria Later, a top Studio Teacher; and Sandy Krebs, mother of high-profile child actors.

Readers are first given an overview of how the industry works and some basics of how to get started.  Parents are given a real-life description of what it means to get into acting: daily routines, getting a job, and what it's like on the job.  The book then addresses issues that parents should be aware of and strategies for both navigating safely through the stage and set world and for dealing with issues that can't be avoided.  Parents learn tips and techniques  for taking care of their child's physical and mental health, for keeping perspective and balance in their family and in their own attitudes, and for meshing with the TV and film set environment for a more positive and fun experience.  In addition to the advice this book provides, a resource appendix is provided with additional quality sources for your new venture.

About the Author:

Gay Wolff has been parenting her two sons through modeling and acting careers for the past 13 years. Her children have been successful by many standards, including financial ones: both have appeared on numerous television shows, have made multiple commercials, and both appeared in movies, yet they are well-rounded children who still have a normal life. Her youngest son Austin's most recent movie was a supporting role in Master of Disguise, starring Dana Carvey. Her experience with her children has run the gamut of acting experiences, covering the low-budget to large studio productions, non-union and union, out-of state on location and day player situations.
