Summary:

Doctor Ouch tells the story of a gentle animal doctor and his adventures as he travels from Russia to Africa to save the ailing children of the jungle animals.  He encounters wolves, a whale, and eagles who help him as he journeys across the plains, the mountains, and the ocean.  Doctor Ouch is a new translation of a very popular Russian children's story, with new, full-page original watercolors.  Doctor Ouch is the first volume in the new Children's International Series, which brings the best children's literature from around the world to children everywhere.

About the Author and Translator:

 

Kornei Chukovsky (1880-1969) was born in St. Petersburg, Russia.  He is the author of many other popular children's stories, in addition to Doctor Ouch.  Translator and illustrator Jan Seabaugh has studied languages and literature in Maryland, Virginia, and Texas.  She received her Ph.D. in literature from the University of Texas at Dallas.
