On-foot exercise—running, jogging, or walking—helps fitness, longevity, and overall quality of life. But unfortunately we are often hesitant to venture out and exercise, especially when in U.S. cities.
However, if we know the best routes to follow, on-foot exercise in cities can be stress-free, interesting, and exhilarating. It can even be fun!
This book highlights the top 50 urban 4-to-10-mile routes in 14 major U.S. cities. Every route satisfies demanding criteria:
- comfort and safety
- historic, cultural, or aesthetic attractions
- convenience without needing a vehicle
- a worthy destination to motivate you to complete the route
The cities covered are: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington.
Routes include: San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate; Central Park and the Hudson River; the Potomac and National Mall; and the Minneapolis Grand Rounds.
Use this book to keep fit while traveling and at home, and—most importantly—make it fun!
About the Author(s)
Warwick Ford and Nola Ford are Australian-raised Canadian-American travel addicts. As a Massachusetts-based executive of a California company, Warwick spent many years logging flight miles and visiting U.S. cities. One of the biggest challenges of that period was finding the motivation and the time to get out on-foot enough to maintain fitness. That led to this project. Now, Warwick and Nola spend time researching and documenting premium, enjoyable on-foot routes in cities throughout the United States and internationally. Warwick’s previous titles were in the technology realm; they include Computer Communications Security and Secure Electronic Commerce, published by Prentice Hall PTR.
