About the Author
Scott Schaut is the Director and Curator of the Mansfield Memorial Museum in Mansfield, Ohio. He is also the author of Original Surveys of Richland County Ohio 1806-1807.
The Mansfield Memorial Museum, which was honored with the Ohio Museum Association's Outstanding Institutional Excellence Award of 2004, is located right in the heart of downtown Mansfield, Ohio at 34 Park Avenue West. The museum is open Wednesday–Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. February–December. The first floor of the museum includes the exhibit "Westinghouse Robots," a comprehensive history of all of the Westinghouse Mechanical Men or Robots from 1924-1959. Several other displays relate to the military history of Richland County, Ohio and some of the early collections of the original director, Edward Wilkinson.
The building is a time capsule on its own and has virtually not changed from the time that it opened in 1889. With ceilings of 26' and all of the original oak woodwork still in place throughout the building, it is like stepping back into the late 1800's. |
