Summary

“Emulate Tom Hanks,” Darryl Hickman tells the students in his dramatic workshop in Los Angeles. The veteran actor, writer, director, producer, CBS executive and renowned teacher of drama uses one of his favorite actors to make a point. Learn to master the mechanics of creativity® as described in his book, The Unconscious Actor®, and you, too, can actualize a magical world just like the Oscar-winning Mr. Hanks. Hickman writes that “forces are at work, forces we cannot see or even fully understand which we can harness to create a better life, a more artistic performance, a greener garden.”

We live in a performance-oriented society. High standards are demanded of us in the classroom, at the office, and in our personal lives. Hickman makes it clear that we all have the tools to become outstanding performers, demonstrating how to make use of those tools with skill and precision. Many of those who have taken Hickman’s workshop have gone on to become award-winning actors, writers and producers, oil magnates, college professors, world-travel consultants, even top executives at Apple Computer Inc. Their stories prove that, by applying the principles outlined in this book, it’s possible for the motivated reader to reach the pinnacle of success in his or her chosen field.
