Summary
"Monk in the Mountain" This book provides direct access to the Spiritual Heart of genuine Samana (One who is walking the Path to the end of the world). The reader can access the Insight immediately and directly as Ajahn Sumano is someone just like you. The only difference is that he no longer believed that the pleasures of the world were all there was to this life. His process is everyone’s process; the obligation to know who we are, to get ones priorities right, to sacrifice a little for the possibility of a lot. Ajahn Sumano took himself to where there was only he and his mind and challenged the mind to continue to deceive him, if it dared. The deception ended.
About the Author
Ajahn Sumano Bhikkhu is an American Buddhist monk. After 7 years as a successful businessman (real estate, insurance, appraisal, and construction), he traveled around the world. Arriving in Thailand he ordained. Five years later he wandered throughout India. Returning to Thailand he has lived in solitude in the N.E. of Thailand. Ajahn Sumano begain writing and translating 8 years ago. "Monk in the Mountain" is his 3rd major book. This book integrates 30 years of living alone in the forest and in caves throughout S.E. Asia. Many of the questions asked and answers offered were harvested from dialogues between the Monk Sumano and spiritual seekers from all over the world. Some from meditation courses and others from emails forwarded to him via his web site. Ajahn Sumano does not meet with guests as he is continuing his solo intensive retreat until 2010. Ajahn Sumano's intention in offering these books is to awaken the spirit of the reader so that they experience the happiness that comes with knowing-the-way-things-are. Once the seeker gets a taste of freedom from the self, Enlightenment is more than possible.
