About the Author

Ellen’s soul-satisfying journey to becoming the author of a “heart and soul” gift book has its roots firmly planted in the Heartland of America. She was reared in the quintessential Midwestern town of Peoria, Illinois by parents who believed with hard work and guts you can do anything. Although Ellen traveled far and wide, she was firmly “grounded” by the influence of her mother Anna Nelle Ohrt. At Anna’s knee Ellen learned about compassion for others, love of self and a belief that anything is possible. But it’s what Anna didn’t say that taught Ellen the most. From early memory, Ellen can recollect her mother waking up in the middle of the night to jot down words and thoughts. It wasn’t until later in life when Ellen was caring for her aging mother that she realized these carefully crafted words had multiplied into pages of inspiring passages and affirmations … all signed by a clever nom de plume, “Ann-Ohrt-amus”. Ellen knew her mother’s words were a unique gift with the ability to touch others and lift them to places of empowerment and strength. Thus, Ellen began a new chapter in her life - compiling a collection of her mother’s writings into a “heart and soul” handbook called Divine Inspirations. In honor of Anna’s wish and Ellen’s life-long pursuits to help children, she donates a portion of the proceeds from the book to the Children’s Home Association of Illinois and other children’s charities throughout the United States. Ellen has received multiple awards and recognition for the programs she developed for children including those from Working Mother Magazine, US Department of Labor, Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues, Arizona Governor’s Office of Children, Arizona Women’s Political Caucus and Arizona Advocates for Children. In 1992, Ellen became the managing partner for Work/Family Connections creating and administering cutting-edge child care and work/life initiatives for leading Phoenix area corporations. Ellen currently resides in Arizona with her husband of twenty-five years, Michael and their three children. Her hobbies include horseback riding, reading a good book and traveling with her family.
