This is a book about ideas. The book describes the development of the money economy from 2750 B. C. in Mesopotamia to current times as seen through the eyes of fictional and historic characters. The level of economic development, the important ideas and the state of science and technology are all described and debated. Characters include slaves, laborers, craftsmen, priests, aristocrats, politicians, graduate students and even prominent economists. The book tells a story about each time period. As the characters engage in their daily lives they raise conflicts and learn about economic issues. At the end of each chapter the author provides an endnote about the period and the historical personalities involved.
About the Author
Frederick has an undergraduate degree in economics and subsequently received an MBA from the University of Chicago. He has had a successful 31-year business career running business in Asia, Europe, South America, and the U. S. He has lived in Europe twice. For six years Frederick served on the Board of the National Association of Manufacturers and acted as Chairman of their economics and tax policy council. He retired in 2006 as Chairman and CEO of Maytag, the major appliance manufacturer.
