Summary

More than seven years after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Islamic terrorism is still a dominant force in the world: Al-Qaeda is carrying out large-scale bombings; terrorism is a daily reality; and Bin Laden and most of Al-Qaeda's senior operatives have not been apprehended yet Today, virtually no country is “immune” from Islamic terrorism, despite the vast resources allocated in recent years in order to defeat it. These counter-measures have had some efficacy and impact, but are evidently lacking. Osama bin Laden and his associates around the world have succeeded in carrying out. Al-Qaeda is still "alive and kicking. Today, virtually no country is “immune” from Islamic terrorism. It is this puzzle or paradox that has driven Shimshon Issaki to "come out of the shadows. It is this puzzle or paradox that has driven Shimshon Issaki to "come out of the shadows" and write this book. The purpose of this book, therefore, is to better equip the free world - governments, counter-terrorism organizations, academic analysts, and concerned citizens - with the insights and tools necessary to win the war on terrorism. It does so by suggesting novel and more effective methods for combating Islamic terrorism, especially that perpetrated and espoused by Al-Qaeda.

Here are some of the measures that Issaki recommends:

    • Ways of drying out completely Al-Qaeda's financial resources.
    • Procedures designed to toughen legislation against resident immigrants, suspected of terrorist activities.
    • Discerning the weak points of Al-Qaeda, and utilizing them in order to defeat it.
    • Areas and methods where security services can cooperate globally in intelligence and operational matters.
    • Tougher measures against states that actively support terrorism.
    • Unification, centralization and empowerment of the different national apparatuses relevant to combating terrorism.
    • Enhancing our ability to influence the hearts and mind of the Muslims.

Reviews

Advance Praise for Terror and Iraq

"He does a masterful job of explaining al Qaeda's intricate and extensive global network, describes the unsuccessful attempts to eliminate it, and suggests novel alternative strategies."

—Frederick D. "Rick" Arons, CPP, CRT (Certified in the Reid Technique), is president of and CEO of American Eagle Investigations in Eagle, Idaho. He is a security consultant specializing in corporate security investigations and threat analysis. He is a former member of the U.S. Army Special Forces and an expert in insurgency and counterinsurgency of ASIS International.—Security Management magazine

"Shimshon Issaki insightfully analyzes the dangers posed by Islamic fundamentalist terrorism around the world. He describes where terrorism stems from and proposes practical ways of combating it, especially Al-Qaeda's operations in Iraq. He critically examines the lessons of the past large-scale attacks (9/11, Bali, London, Madrid), in order to present original and useful strategies for preventing future attacks. Shimshon Issaki has vast experience and understanding in terrorism, Islam and the Arab world. He brings his unique expertise to this book, which is a must-read for anyone involved or interested in the global war against terror".

—Shabtai Shavit, former Director of the Israeli Mossad.

"Shimshon Issaki has written a unique, educational and timely book. Many books have been produced on terrorism, but Issaki's title sets his book apart because the focus is on winning the war. To do that, he also gives us a deep understanding of the Islamic movement that is behind Al-Qaeda. This book is of incredible value, in particular to the west, as it helps educate us regarding the history and foundation of this war and brings us current insights. Then, Issaki wears a prophetic hat to help us look ahead and see what might happen if we don't learn from the past".

—John Grady, CPP, former officer in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

"Issaki's book is focused on a topic of great international concern ... Global Jihad. Issaki addresses the timely question of whether Al-Qaeda is weakened or is still alive and kicking. He convincingly shows that Islamic terrorism is still a dominant force in the world and that the model of Al-Qaeda's terror in Iraq can be copied to other countries. This book is distinctive in that it not only gives an in-depth analysis of Al-Qaeda, but also presents concrete methods to combat this organization. Issaki's rich past as an intelligence analyst and an operations officer enable him to achieve these two goals in an exceptional manner".

—Ilan Mizrahi, former Deputy Director of the Israeli Mossad and former Chairman of the Israeli National Security Council
