Summary

Over the years, many individuals have worked with the Bible and have produced various translations and paraphrases in different languages. These translations have emerged in different times, to different audiences, but the underlying drive and inspiration has been the same. In the words of William Tyndale, the man credited for the first printed translation of the Bible into English, “If God spares my life, I will cause the boy that drives the plow in England to know more of the Scriptures than the Pope himself!” The enduring motivation and indomitable drive has been, “to get the word into the hands of the people in the language they can relate to, a language they would understand and read.” The impulse to produce an alternative presentation of the Bible to individuals with the hope that they will read the Word of God presented in this manner and be introduced to the never changing God of the Word, is the impulse of the People’s Proverbs Worship and Devotional Study Bible.

The People’s Proverbs Worship And Devotional Study Bible is not another translation of the Bible but a paraphrase directed towards those who hardly reads the Bible, however, this presentation will also have a great appeal to devoted Bible Students, and worshippers, because of its special focus. Individuals with an undying passion for the Word of God, who searches the scriptures and closely examines the truths, who is on the constant lookout for new ways and methods of Bible study, who spends time listening to God, who seeks to hear His voice in His Word and who ferrets through the Scriptures for new revelations daily will welcome this presentation and love the many study features.

he theme-based approach used in the People’s Proverbs Worship and Devotional Study Bible will motivate individuals to read entire chapters, instead of few verses at a time. The numbering of verses is unique to this book but the aim collaborates the drive of this book, that is, to nudge readers to read entire chapters at a time and not just individual verses; the writing style and all the features of this presentation of the Bible, including the theme-based approach is written in its current format to inspire readers to want to read the entire chapter.

The writing style of the People’s Proverbs Worship and Devotional Study Bible compels worship. Readers will find that among the worship features in the PPWDS Bible, the dramatic and emotional experience of Bible dramas are naturally enhanced, therefore drawing readers into the praise of the moment as experienced by the Bible characters involved, and inviting them to build their own altar of worship on the basis of these encounters and experiences. This writing style is consistent throughout the People’s Proverbs Worship and Devotional Study Bible and readers will find that worship moments are captured in memorization verse formats throughout this presentation. Not only are songs rewritten in this presentation of the Word to enhance their rhythmic and melodious quality, but new songs are written from the scriptures that will enhance the reader’s worship experience.

In addition to all these, The Psalms of Nations feature, a collection of modern Psalms from the national anthems of over fifty nations, will consolidate the worship experience of the reader as it brings to this book a blended national focus to its worship character. Readers will take pride in discovering the psalm of their country in this feature. Every Chapter of the PPWDS Bible initiates with a memorization verse which summarizes the chapter and introduces a theme. The scripture content of most chapters are then woven into the theme to present the Word, as common to most translations and paraphrase of the Bible, with a devotional quality. Bible stories and dramas are related in such a manner as to heighten its appeal and to enhance the devotional experience of the reader as it interblends the message of the theme.

In every chapter, the lessons for practical application comes out at the reader as they read the chapter. A typical example can be seen in the excerpt from Genesis 1 below. The PPWDS Bible also features a Concordance of Themes which allows the reader referencing to other chapters with similar themes and devotional focus, thus presenting a tool that can be used to expand the readers devotional experience. The People's Proverbs Worship And Devotional Study Bible has many features that enhances study, and that will have a direct appeal to ardent Bible students. The writing style of this paraphrase and particularly the theme-based approach is expository in nature and will facilitate a “read-through” study of the Word of God. The themes will stimulate the thoughts of readers and will inspire them to look for practical application and insights every time they read the Bible.

The Concordance of Themes will provide quick referencing to other chapters with similar themes or content of interest. The unique Memorization Verse will provide a basis of mental referencing of chapters, and the rhythmic approach to these verses makes memorization to long term memory much easier. This feature will provide a useful tool for the general memorization of chapters that is applicable for use to scriptures located in any version of the Bible.
