Summary
When an internationally renowned television talk-show host asserted that 70%
of African American women were single simply because of a shortage of black
men, author William Oatis decided to offer an alternative perspective from
the point of view of a single black male.
Although Oatis agrees that Oprah is partly right, he is strongly convinced that the problem is more complex. He maintains that many black women are 1) experiencing the effects of a self-inflicted backlash which has undermined their appeal in the eyes of some black men and 2) suffering the consequences of a conscious choice to limit their dating options to an increasingly shrinking segment of society - black men. Oatis offers his analysis in a respectful, straightforward yet empowering manner. "There are some legitimate frustrations that some black men have towards African American women but there is no available mechanism to facilitate mature discussion between us. Whether it is fair or not, it is generally understood among black men that you do not voice these opinions to African American women, despite good intentions. My intent is to offer a mature male's perspective on this problem, in order to establish a dialogue between us designed to air out these issues."
In Why Black Women Are Single, you will be exposed to a different outlook and approach designed to help you break away from the 70% single rate that stands in the way of finding a life of love and happiness.
