Summary
Unexpected Blessings tells the story of W. E. Winfrey in a series of life lessons learned throughout an eventful journey of more than seventy years. Harsh winters, World War II shortages resulting in rationing of such items as shoes, sugar, and fuel provide a platform for his early years. Gardening and the raising of animals for food were more than hobbies. Hard work and the necessity to save were lessons learned at an early age. Winfrey relates a significant number of close encounters that demonstrated God’s hand in events. None of these is more evident than the miracle of his surviving the repair of a torn aorta and replacement of a ruptured heart valve. Follow Winfrey through twenty-five years of prison ministry, forty-two years in Gideon work, and more than fourteen years of historical and archeological work in Hanover County.
About the Author
W. E. (Bill) Winfrey is a husband, father, and grandfather. He is a retired state transportation engineer, residing on a 380-acre timber tract in Hanover County, Virginia. His residence overlooks a five acre pond he constructed and stocked. Retirement is spent harvesting trees for firewood, burned in an outdoor stove that heats his house and hot water. He also provides firewood for an elderly widow and cuts grass for another neighbor who needs his assistance. A lifelong Virginia resident, this Army veteran enjoys an active life of engineering projects, hunting, trapping, fishing, and working with heavy equipment. In addition to woodworking projects, he is very active in county archeology as well as evangelistic work, especially with the Gideons.
