Summary
As you flip through the pages of this book, you will discover a world that has existed for our beloved canines that we’ve rarely had a chance to see - dogs enjoying the freedom of the water - the weightlessness they feel as they dive to the bottom of the pool or ocean in search of their favorite toy. Americans own 73 million dogs, according to the American Pet Products Association, and 75 percent of those dog owners say they consider their furry friend to be a member of the family, even one of their children! I wanted to provide a unique and exotic look at the faces of dogs as they splash, dive and swim through the water. I feel these photographs truly capture the heart of every dog - finding pure joy in the simpler things in life. You may also pick up a few lessons for your daily life while reading this book - to sit back and enjoy the “dive”. Each dog has a story to tell, and you’ll get to know them through the pages of this book. They are inspiring and funny, and may tempt you to get to know your doggie friend in a way you never have before. They’ve certainly changed the direction of my life. Enjoy Diving Doggies: A Celebration of Play Underwater. My book is a celebration of our best friends.
About the Author
After studying photography at Appalachian State University and The University of Western Sydney in Australia, I worked with Joyce Tenneson and Lois Greenfield in New York City. Since starting the Diving Doggies project in 2007, I have compiled a sizable archive of different breeds and locations. Submissions to magazines including Urban Dog, Rangefinder, Underwater Photography and Bark Magazine have yielded several feature articles, while also introducing the photo community (and broader readerships) to an untouched segment of photography. The concept is exciting, because it brings forward a great human (and animal) interest story. Readers and viewers have a deep appreciation for, and familiarity with, their dogs. Diving Doggies sets out to humanize our best friends, because we too can see a bit of ourselves when they make that splash.
