Summary
Evolution by way of natural selection is more than a theory that can explain certain earthly phenomena. It is a logical inevitability that applies to all earthly (and universal) phenomena. Hence, humans are in no way, and cannot possibly be in any way, exempted from this reality, as this would require the elimination of all threats to human existence--physical, predatory, microbial and rival. By extension, based on natural variation patterns generally, and different evolutionary histories specifically, whatever actions humans undertake as individuals and/or in the form of groups will invariably have selection ramifications. And being that human actions are now largely guided by cultural traditions, beliefs, and ideas overall, these too will be subject to the same selection pressure via the selection for the actions they inspire. In short, humans can use ideas to advance their own causes, if they comport with evolutionary principles--by keeping a step ahead of natural selection; or humans can use ideas to hurt their own causes, i.e., increase their chances of extinction to the extent that they do not comport with evolutionary principles.
This book describes the related evolutionary prescriptions as being defined by selection vector universals (SVUs): an array of trends automatically produced by natural selection, as material self-organization in the midst of prevailing threats to structural existence has created ongoing technological advancement in hierarchical fashion--all in relation to generally functional characteristics. Hence, it is the SVUs that serve as the functionality benchmarks by which the evolutionary past can be explained, the evolutionary future can be (generally) predicted, and the likely competitiveness of varied human ideas and policies around the globe can be assessed--offering clues as to which human populations are most or least likely to be a part of the earth’s evolutionary future.
About the Author
This book is the result of a promise an 11-year-old made to himself 38 years ago. Not being able to accept that faith can lead to truth, and recognizing that faith has produced at least as much war as peace, this 11-year-old declared that someday he would write a book that could describe truth and rules of interaction - based on a standard of evidence alone - that could gain the consensus of and unite the world’s various peoples. 19 years ago, with engineering and systems degree in hand, and career underway, the time had come to begin researching the project. To find direction, the history of religion was chosen as a starting point, as the related institutions tend to claim a monopoly on greater truth and morals. Soon discovered was that the first religions were hunting religions, which then became transformed into agricultural religions, which then became transformed into civilized religions - all while the core principles remained intact throughout. Of all ironies, the history of religion has been an evolutionary progression. Next question: If evolution theory exists at the heart of the history of religion, what else could it exist at the heart of in explaining world phenomena? After more than 30,000 hours of time and effort over nearly 20 years, what else can be explained is presented inside this cover. No faith required, a promise fulfilled.
