Introduction:

I look to the skies … and the clouds that are there … the clouds that change the skies in a way similar to the changing skies of my life.  I look to the skies where there are no clouds at all.  I look to the skies that are brilliantly lit with stars … and the night skies that sometimes are silent of stars.

My eyes are beckoned skyward … and I study the clouds there … I find myself thinking how the clouds change from moment to moment … day to day … changing the skies … and how they resemble the changes in our lives … the changing of our seasons … the changing of our moods … the changing of the canvas as to whose faces we see there … those who appeared in our lives so long ago and have drifted on by … those that appear at different times and seasons of our lives … some lingering.

Some stay on for a lifetime and are like the favorite picture that you never take from the wall … always a part of your canvas.

In this book you may find a relationship between blue skies and wonderful moments and a relationship between storm clouds and the emotional raindrops that come from them … in the sad and trying times of our lives.

Through it all it is my heart that sets the pace … my heartbeat that is but a small echo of the greater heartbeat of God.  And I listen.

Excerpt:

There’s a place on the inside of the soul’s window … for savoring … contemplating and re-contemplating … sometimes sharing what we hold to be sacred there.  That is what I believe.  A trusted friend has defined “the soul” for me, as “the essence or the spiritual part of the person.”  And so, I say, on the one side of the window … my side … is a place that is only mine … and God’s.  A place where my innermost heart thoughts, hopes, dreams, private things … precious intangibles … secret prayers are kept.  A sanctuary wherein resides “the essence or the spiritual side” of myself.  A sanctuary where I can go and share company … sort out things … treasure past moments again … see faces that I long to see … feel joy … or acknowledge sadness.  I can speak to my conscience … and it can speak to me.  There’s no one else there to layer on guilt or sing praises … just me and God.  Really, God and me … for His name should surely come first.  He knows when I do wrong and whispers about it in my ear.  He forgives me.  Oh, how he does forgive me … and often whispers praises in my ear as well.  I can know myself in this place … seek to find … and very often do find a certain peace … and a certain comfort.

From the Foreword by Dr. Edwin Chase:

In The Window of My Soul, Zimmie describes her soul as a very private place like a sanctuary with a stained glass window.  What a perfect metaphor.  All that life throws at her is filtered through her soul, the beauty of the stained glass.  There, she invites us to find the joys of God’s creation, sacred memories and the wonder of God’s ways.  And if our soul is “good glass,” God’s true light can be seen.  Somehow after reading this book, I see a stained glass window in another way … and I understand that the light that filters through a good glass becomes extraordinary.

About the Author

If one doesn’t count the years before first grade, Zimmie is a product of the 40’s … a child like a hundred or so others who were raised in The Methodist Children’s Home in Macon, Georgia.  She received an A.A. degree from Young Harris College, a Methodist school located in the mountains of North Georgia.

In her adult years she has lived in and around Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia, and worked for a government agency, a sound recording studio, and in law firms.  She is the mother of two sons and three grandchildren.

Somewhere tied into these years have been the threads of “the arts,”  loving choral arts, hand bell ringing, theatre and dance.  She has found herself in the midst of costuming plays and loving what the touches of a costume can bring to a character.  And, of course, in the last ten or more years, she has delved into writing and takes joy in where her pen leads her.  Rather, where God pushes that pen.  Her endeavor is to find words that make a difference to someone else along the way.
