Introduction
This book includes, 5 different music scales. When you have learned these 5 scales you will have played every note on the guitar.
The 1st scale you will learn is the C/A minor scale. This is the most popular scale used. It is used in 70% of the songs played today.
The other 4 scales you will learn are the: G/E, minor scale, the D/B minor scale, the A/F# minor scale and the F/D minor scale.
This book will show you in details the notes and the chords that are used for each scale. Certain chords and notes are played for each scale. We will show you the chords that are being played on the CD. The CD consists of guitar rhythms. The idea is for you to learn the notes to these rhythms.
We will also announce on the CD which chords are being played, and in which order.
When you feel comfortable with what you've learned, then you can get with another guitar player who can play the rhythm while you play the lead and vise-versa.
To learn the notes of these scales we have broken the notes into Sets (lessons). Each set should be memorized before going onto the next set of notes. The next set of notes will be displayed along with the previous sets of notes that you've already learned. When you feel comfortable with a set of notes, then combine all the sets you have learned. Play each set of notes to the rhythm on the CD supplied.
When practicing each set of notes there are certain fingers to use, and an order to be practiced with. Displays will show you to start with the low E string. It is the top string on your guitar. You will start with the top string (Low E) and work your way down the strings. When you are comfortable playing top to bottom, then practice playing from bottom to top.
For those of you who are not familiar with a guitar, you will find the term "Fret" used throughout this book. A Fret is the space between the metal strips on the neck of the guitar. Fret 1 is the space below the turning head of the guitar.
To wrap it up, the idea is to learn how to write or "Improvise". This means to create a melody on the spot based in memorized sets of notes which serve as maps on which are the "right" notes to play when certain chords are being strummed. You will be able to figure out songs you know by going up and down a scale.
