There are two basic processes in using color. If the
images are solid shades, and the overall design requires one to three colors for
reproduction, the normal process is to use "spot" inks, known as PMS
(Pantone Matching System) colors. |
If a combination of color is required to create the image (such as a colored
photograph), the method considered is four-color process: Cyan, Yellow, Magenta,
Black. |
 |
Be sure to have your spot colors and process color builds specified
accurately and consistently when setting them up in your desktop programs. Please do not use spot color black in your documents unless you are familiar with how it reproduces in a CMYK workflow.
If you are using PMS colors in the document, those should be set to SPOT. All
graphics being printed as process should be converted to CMYK. If your images
are in RGB (Red, Green, Blue), they should be converted to CMYK. If this is not
done, your graphics will not separate correctly when processing your files. With a single command, an image-editing program such as
PhotoShop can easily convert RGB graphics into CMYK.
BookMasters does not support the use of ICC profiles. The reliable use of ICC profiles requires accurate and consistent calibration of customer equipment as well as an accurate ICC profile of the destination color space. Without these elements the use of ICC profiles does not produce accurate color rendering. To accomplish accurate ICC based proofing all monitors, proofing printers, inks and presses involved in the project must be calibrated to the same achievable color space and use a common ICC destination profile. This is a critical element in the electronic color-proofing process that BookMasters has no control over and therefore can not recommend, trust or be liable for. Through the use of GRACoL (www.gracol.org) standards and internal calibrations to our achievable color-space BookMasters is able to produce a reliable and accurate color matching proof of our final output throughout the printing process. Should you insist on the use of ICC profiles a test file should be submitted with a request for BookMasters to produce a proof of your file. Should there be a color discrepancy it is recommended that you adjust your monitor or proofing device to match the color reflected on our proof and then make any needed color adjustments. This is currently the most reliable method to proof and adjust the color of a project that would be produced by BookMasters Inc.
