Daris Swindler
To Order
Price: $18.95
ISBN: 978-0-9791921-1-1

An excellent glimpse into what anthropology was like in the not too-far distant past, Daris Swindler's six-month daily journal, written while on expedition to Melanesia from the University of Pennsylvania with Dr. Ward Goodenough and Dr. Ann Chowning fifty-three years ago, is human and captivating and shows us yet another time that is gone forever. Generously illustrated with photos from the trip the account takes us through unexpected adventures and routine data collection, all with a touch that is accessible and entertaining, and introduces us to a generous, independent people living in a natural setting and learning to adapt to modern life.  A great book for budding anthropologists, seasoned scholars and armchair travelers alike, and a valuable text to accompany college-level courses.

Kim Chinquee
To Order
Price: $13.95
ISBN: 978-0-9791921-8-0

A wonderful debut collection of prose poems and flash fictions, short short stories of beautiful precisions and understated passions. While the bricks with which Chinquee constructs her fictions—failed or failing relationships, childhood friendships, the intricacies of family life—are not uncommon, the architecture she creates with them is rare indeed: stories now full of light, now somber, now opening the reader’s eyes to an utterly new space.

The Origins of SolitudeThe Origins of Solitude
Garth Buckner
To Order
Price: $14.95
ISBN: 978-0-9766593-2-7

Beginning with the true tragedy of the grounding of the "Golden Venture" off Rockaway Beach, Queens, NY on June 7th, 1992, during which ten illegal Chinese immigrants from Fujin drowned, the director travels the world, loosely following the path of the ship back to Africa and then Asia, documenting the realities of people smuggling.  On a deeper level, Buckner's director struggles to balance the strictness of documenting fact with the commercial need to produce entertainment and the fact that he's often not present to film the true story.  So to what extent can he manipulate what is happening?  A hopeful book, The Origins of Solitude presents the serious reader with a different take on a global problem.

Radish KingRadish King
Rebecca Loudon
To Order
Price: $13.95
ISBN: 978-0-9766593-4-1

Rebecca Loudon's second collection of poems frequently finds itself "On the Delirious Track," fascinated by "that lovely erotic flaw / (the importance of the lopsided)." And if her poems are disorienting and confusing, which they can be, their humor, rhythm, surprise, and obsessive repetitions can be mesmerizing.  (Bookslut)

Reverse NegativeReverse Negative
Nathan Leslie
To Order
Price: $12.95
ISBN: 978-0-9776162-8-2

A reverse negative is a photographic image in negative light, which also appears literally reversed.  In a sense, it may be a double removal from the “reality” of the photograph.  In the title piece of Reverse Negative, the female narrator says, “This is a shadow of what most people normally see.  This is the opposite, the reverse negative.”  The story portrays the mundane existence of a couple who have recently learned about the death of their son, and their difficult time trying to find out what happened somewhere in Hungary.

Within only 179 pages, Leslie offers the short fiction reading world fifty-eight stories arranged alphabetically.  Short fiction, also called “sudden” and “micro” fiction, is generally understood to be fiction between 1,000 and 2,000 words.  The power of a short, intense, well-wrought piece can have at least the same power of a longer story and at the same time the lingering metaphoric and lyrical possibilities of a poem.  More obviously, a work of short fiction is a quick read.  One can analyze point of view, plot and other narrative techniques in a much more compact and realized space—not to mention that the leading practitioners of the form seem more willing to experiment than one might find in longer fiction, and Reverse Negative is no exception.
